Leeds United have been given a boost in their pursuit of midfielder James Jeggo after Kleineze Itung reported that he has been snubbed in a round of contract renewals by Sturm Graz.

The Austrian publication claim that six of the 25-year-old’s teammates have been offered extensions but he has not.

This comes after the Daily Mail reported that Leeds are one of three Championship clubs interested in prising Jeggo from the Austrian top-flight club along with Middlesbrough and Hull.

Australian Jeggo is in the final year of his Graz contract and can sign a pre-contract agreement in January with an overseas club ahead of a summer move. His English parents mean he qualifies to play in the UK.

Good move for Leeds?

Jeggo is a combative midfielder that appears to have the physical attributes to succeed in the English game and could be a smart signing by Leeds. He has extensive experience in the Austrian top flight and is a mainstay of the Sturm Graz side. The fact that he will be free to move next summer when his contract expires makes it a fairly inexpensive deal, and one that could strengthen a Leeds side which is crying out for an A-list central midfielder.

Likely to happen?

Jeggo certainly does look to be on the way out of Sturm Graz next summer, but it is unclear at this stage whether Elland Road will be his destination. There are three Championship clubs circling for his signature, and there is likely to be other interest and news of his contract snub filters through. Leeds director of football Victor Orta has recruited mainly from overseas since taking charge of transfers, so expect that trend to continue.
