Thomas Christiansen delivered a scathing verdict on Leeds United’s defeat to Sheffield United and said he had a “face like I could kill somebody”.

The Elland Road manager cut a frustrated figure after his side lost 2-1 against their fellow Championship promotion hopefuls on Friday night.

Leeds are at risk of dropping out of the Championship’s top six on Saturday afternoon following their fourth defeat in five league matches, and their fifth in six games in all competitions.

Substitute David Brooks’ first senior goal picked Leeds off towards the end of an eventful derby last night but the result was a fair one and Christiansen’s side were particularly outplayed in the first half.

Asked if he was angry about the failure to perform in front of another crowd of over 34,000, Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “Always when I lose I have a face like I could kill somebody but I will try to sleep and then face the team and we’ll fight back again.

“It was a bad first half. We managed to come back into the game in the second half but still it’s not good enough.

“The team were too hectic and complicated the situation too much. From my point of view we didn’t handle playing in the opposition half with patience. This is what we need to move the ball, create the spaces and opportunities.”

OPINION

Little wonder Christiansen was so angry as the inquest began into yet another defeat. His team are in danger of throwing away their brilliant start to the season. It provided them with a cushion in the promotion race, but that has now been punctured following a series of performances that have been equally as worrying as the results. Leeds have not been unlucky, or been the victims of poor referee decisions. They have been lamentable for most of the last month, and things must change or their freefall will continue.
