Leeds United summer signings Mateusz Klich and Jay-Roy Grot have been among the team’s worst three players this summer, according to Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay.

The long-standing Leeds journalist analyses the performances of each player after every match and gives them a rating out of ten.

With a quarter of the Championship season gone, and Leeds positioned at fifth in the table, the Yorkshire Evening Post has chronicled Hay’s average scores for the players from their 14 competitive fixtures, made up of 11 league matches and three cup ties.

With only players who have made four or more appearances shown, Hay’s lowest median ratings given to fan favourite Gaetano Berardi, whose average is 5.33.

The full-back is behind summer striker arrival Grot, whose average is 5.67, and new central midfielder Klich, whose average is 5.83.

OPINION

Yes, the fans love him and their chant ‘If Berardi scores, we’re on the pitch’ never fails to raise a chuckle. But even the Switzerland international’s greatest admirers – of which there are admittedly many – will struggle to put together a strong case for him having a reasonable start to the season. It is no coincidence that Leeds’ defeats at Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday coincided with Berardi starting at left-back ahead of the far more complete Vurnon Anita, whose solidity and pedigree is understated but tangible. As Hay’s ratings suggest, the hallowed Berardi has had a stinker so far.
