Tottenham and London rivals West Ham are both interested in Walsall striker Mitch Candlin, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Premier League duo have been monitoring the 17-year-old at the League One club.

It is understood that Spurs and the Hammers have “detailed scouting reports” on the teenager, who has also trained with the England Under’18s in the past.

Candlin is a product of the Walsall academy and has managed to force his way into the first team during 2017.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs have become renowned for picking up young talents and have the perfect manager to do that in through Mauricio Pochettino.

Candlin has already made seven senior appearances for Walsall and his a 6ft striker that is being tipped for a bright future.

However, it is still far too early to see how successful he could become and he certainly needs at least another six months under his belt before being judged.

Spurs could look to strike up a similar deal as the one they agreed with MK Dons for Dele Alli, where he spent the remainder of the season with them on loan before making a permanent move.

Likely to happen?

Candlin only just signed a professional deal with Walsall and his immediate future appears to be with the League One side.

However, Spurs have become recognised for picking up young talents and it would be no surprise if this deal develops in the future.

They would have to battle off Premier League rivals West Ham for his signature, but Pochettino’s side are certainly an attractive side to join right now.
