Hamilton will have to face Rangers without two more first team regulars after they were ruled out of Friday night’s Scottish Premiership clash.

First-choice goalkeeper Gary Woods will miss the game after lacerating a kidney in what has been dubbed a freak accident and the BBC report that defender Georgios Sarris is out for six weeks with a knee injury.

Woods, 26, is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering the injury during last Saturday’s 2-1 league defeat to St Johnstone.

“He had bother with it over the weekend and went up to hospital,” manager Martin Canning said, as quoted by the BBC Sport website. “They’re keeping him in for 48 hours to keep an eye on him. They don’t think it will be anything major, but it will definitely put him out of Friday.”

Canning explained that Hamilton’s medical staff believe the goalkeeper may have suffered the injury “just by landing heavily” during the clash in Perth.

The BBC Sport website report that Hamilton will also have to face Pedro Caixinha’s side without defender Georgios Sarris, who is expected to be out for up to six weeks following a knee operation.

The Scotsman report that Accies manager Martin Canning will also be unable to call upon injured senior midfield trio Darian MacKinnon, Grant Gillespie and David Templeton.

OPINION

Rangers certainly cannot hide behind the injuries to key defensive duo Lee Wallace and Bruno Alves when they face Hamilton on Friday. MacKinnon’s suspension leaves Accies boss Martin Canning without three midfielders, with Gillespie and Templeton both out injured. MacKinnon is a big miss. He has made more than 180 appearances for the New Douglas Park side since joining from Clydebank in 2012 and provides crucial experience and knowhow to the Accies. The 31-year-old also has a decent record for popping up and scoring important goals.
