Neil Warnock has claimed that he managed Leeds at the “wrong time” and for the “wrong chairman”.

The former Leeds manager – now manager of Cardiff City – was talking in the matchday program ahead of the top-of-the-table Championship clash between the two clubs.

Warnock managed Leeds for 14 months when he replaced Simon Grayson in February 2012, when Ken Bates was chairman.

However, it wasn’t a success and he left after a 2-1 defeat to Derby in March 2013 that left Leeds just five points off the relegation zone in the Championship.

Most of his time at the helm was met by abuse from the Leeds fans and he spent 15 months after the job without a club.

Now, talking ahead of the Championship game with his former side, Warnock said, “I know how big a club Leeds are.

“I think I probably managed Leeds at the wrong time in my career and for the wrong chairmen, but we all live and learn.”

The page in the program was posted on Phil Hay’s Twitter account.

OPINION

Leeds fans don’t have a very high opinion of Warnock and they’d love to put one over on their former manager tonight and cement their place at the top of the league. Warnock will feel the same, however, and the Bluebirds are currently flying high after six wins and two draws from their first nine games. It will be a highly entertaining game but it’s all about the three points. Warnock has said before that he joined Leeds at the wrong time, and that it was impossible to do a job with the atmosphere at the club the way it was. However, his record was poor and the job didn’t work out for either side. It will be interesting to hear the reaction he gets tonight from the vocal away support.
