Bruno Alves has been ruled out of the Old Firm derby against Celtic on Saturday at the Ibrox, according to STV.

The veteran 35-year-old defender limped off in the midweek League Cup quarter final against Partick Thistle with about 15 minutes remaining.

19-year-old Ross McCrorie came on for his senior Rangers debut and although his side conceded an equaliser late on, they went on to win 3-1 in extra time.

Manager Pedro Caixinha was hoping Alves would be fit for the game, but reports emerged earlier on Friday that he had been ruled out, before fans spotted him at an airport, reportedly heading for Madrid.

Alves is the most experienced player in the Rangers camp, with 94 caps for Portugal and European honours.

However, Caixinha is going to have to do without him for the first Old Firm clash of the season – and beyond if the STV report is correct.

They say that the players is likely to be sidelined for a couple of weeks.

That means that other players are going to have to step up to the plate – with three players in particular likely to shape the outcome of the match.
