Tottenham player ratings v Barnsley

|

Goalkeeper and defenders

Michel Vorm 7 – Decent performance from the stand-in keeper, but he didn’t have a great deal to do. Earned his rating with a great save from Ike Ugbo in the 46th minute. The on-loan Chelsea man struck it straight at Vorm, but it was Barnsley’s best chance.

Kyle Walker-Peters 7 – Didn’t have to do a lot at the back but didn’t offer as much going forward as Kieran Trippier on the right. A quiet night, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing for the youngster.

Jan Vertonghen 8 – The rock in the heart of the Spurs defence, although he did slice a clearance wildly over his own goal. The captain for the night safely guided his men home.

Juan Foyth 6 – This was the player Spurs fans were waiting to see, but they’ll probably have to wait for the next cup game to get another glimpse. The clean sheet goes on the 19-year-old’s record but it was Jan Vertonghen the Tottenham fans should thank for that.

Kieran Trippier 8 – He’s not done much wrong since Kyle Walker left but Trippier is still playing for his place, such is the strength of Mauricio Pochettino’s backline. Made the goal with typical marauding play and limited Barnsley to few chances at the back. Solid.
