19-year-old Jay-Roy Grot got his first start in a Leeds shirt as Thomas Christiansen’s men put in a battling performance at Turf Moor.
With the score at 0-0 in the 79th minute, the game exploded into life when Hadi Sacko scored the breakthrough for Leeds.
Three more goals, with the last coming in the 97th minute, sent the tie into extra time and then penalties, where Leeds put in a flawless display from the spot.
Five penalties scored gave Leeds a deserved 5-3 victory and passage through to the next round of the League Cup.
For manager Christiansen, it was a chance to see how some of his fringe stars react to the limelight.
19-year-old striker Jay-Roy Grot was handed his first start by the manager and Leeds fans delivered mixed views on his performance.
He arrived in the summer for £1.5million from NEC Nijmegen and is currently being utilised on the bench for Championship games, with Pierre-Michel Lasogga preferred up front.
He played 85 minutes , giving way to Lasogga, who got more game-time than he might have anticipated with the score at 1-0.
This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets from Leeds fans after the game.
Grot looked like a league 2 player, clumsy and gave ball away cheaply. Cibicki ok but lightweight, klich looked good, shaughnessy was class

Can we have a mini compilation of Berardi sliding through Taylor and then Roofe & Grot putting him off the pitch ?

I said the same mate. His size automatically stereotypes him as a lone target man but he's not and he's only 19.

Grot isn't a footballer. Bound to have 1 poor player amongst all the good ones though.
