Pierre-Michel Lasogga is currently in the Leeds United squad to face Birmingham on Tuesday night, according to a BBC journalist.

BBC West Yorkshire correspondent Adam Pope reported on his personal Twitter account on Monday afternoon that the German has taken his place in the matchday 18 as he awaits the birth of his first child in Germany.

Lasogga’s partner was due to give birth to the baby at the weekend but has not yet done so and, just over 24 hours before kick-off, the player is free to make his second appearance for his new club.

The deadline day signing, who is on a season-long loan from Bundesliga big hitters Hamburg, marked a sensational debut on Saturday with two goals in Leeds’ 5-0 demolition of struggling Burton Albion.

He was immediately hailed by supporters and pundits as the ideal replacement for Chris Wood, who was sold for £15million to Burnley this summer.

OPINION

Leeds fans are desperate to see more of their new goal hero in action. Lasogga had a dream start in his Elland Road career on Saturday as he demonstrated why he was close to a call-up to the Germany squad for the 2014 World Cup. A powerhouse front man who has already been compared to club legend Mark Viduka for his combination of a broad frame and delicate touch, the striker appears to have what it takes to make a big impact in the Championship this season. Replacing Wood’s 27 league goals from last season will not be easy, but it appears that Leeds are building a team where goals can be created and scored by a number of players and reduce the reliance on one.
