OPINION

Leeds are reportedly one of three Championship clubs interested in signing Liverpool youngster Yan Dhanda.

The Mail claim that the Whites want to sign the 18-year playmaker on loan ahead of the new season, but face competition from league rivals Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

It is understood that Liverpool may be reluctant to accept a loan deal as the midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the season.

Good move for Leeds?

Dhanda is an exciting talent at Anfield and is being tipped for greatness, but is not the type of player that Leeds need right now.

The teenager can play in a number 10 role or on the left wing, something which has seen him being highly effective in front of goal for Liverpool’s youth side.

He has also trained with the Reds first team, but has no experience at senior level and it would be a big risk for Leeds.

Thomas Christiansen needs to prioritise defensive signings and already has several quality options going forward.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Dhanda will end up at Elland Road for the new season as Christiansen looks to improve his defensive options, instead.

The Yorkshire giants are well supplemented in attack with the likes of Kemar Roofe, Souleymane Doukara, Pablo Hernandez, Samuel Saiz, Hadi Sacko and Ezgjan Alioski jostling for a starting position.

Liverpool also have reservations about letting their talented playmaker go and don’t want to risk losing him in 12 months time.
