OPINION

La Liga club Valencia are reportedly interested in signing Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista.

The Sun claim that the Gunners will accept a suitable offer for the 26-year-old this summer as they look to trim their squad.

It is understood that Valencia are consider a move and that Arsenal are likely to accept an offer of around £10million.

The report details that Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Mathieu Debuchy and Lucas Perez are also first teamers that Arsene Wenger is looking to sell to raise transfer funds.

Good move for Arsenal?

Gabriel seems surplus to requirements this summer at the Emirates Stadium and shipping him on for a good price will be a good deal.

The north London club have enough defenders in their squad already with the likes of Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi, Sead Kolasinac, Rob Holding, Per Mertesacker and Nacho Montreal.

Gabriel has racked up 64 appearances for the Gunners and shown some moments of quality, but his consistency means he is no more than a squad player.

Arsenal will be very pleased if they can get £10million for the Brazilian and that money can be spent elsewhere to make improvements.

Likely to happen?

Gabriel’s departure from the Premier League seems imminent and a return to La Liga makes sense for the centre-back.

He previously played for Spanish club Villarreal and Valencia will be believe the Brazilian can bolster their defence.

Wenger has already made it clear that he wants to trim his squad before any new signings are made and their is currently an overload of defensive options.

Gabriel is up on the transfer market for sale and it would not be a surprise to see some Premier League clubs sniffing around for his signature to rival Valencia.
