OPINION

Premier League champions Chelsea are reportedly set to make a huge bid for Tottenham defender Danny Rose.

The Sun claim that the Blues will launch a £50million bid for the left-back shortly after the two teams play each other on Sunday.

It is understood that Antonio Conte’s side have made the England international their number one target and will try to bring him to Stamford Bridge in a huge deal.

Rose, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, has recently criticised Spurs for their wage structure and approach in the transfer market.

However, the north London club have not yet shown any signs that they want to sell the full-back this summer.

Good move for Spurs?

Spurs must reject any bid from Chelsea for Rose if they make an attempt in the closing weeks of the transfer window.

The defender can still have a future with the club and is arguably the best left-back in the English top flight.

Mauricio Pochettino should not want to willingly strengthen a title rival and he has already lost Kyle Walker to Manchester City this summer.

Ben Davies is a solid player for Spurs at left-back, but when Rose is fit again he can play a big role in the new campaign.

The Englishman has apologised following his public outburst and Spurs must now be looking to get him focused on his football again.

Likely to happen?

It seems unlikely that Spurs will sell to bitter rivals Chelsea this summer and especially one of their top players.

They would be left with little options in the full-back area and may not have enough time left in the window to find a suitable replacement, with the club still the only Premier League side yet to sign anyone.

However, stranger things have happened and the Blues are on the search for a left-sided defender and are willing to splash the cash.

Conte’s side will seriously be willing to test the resolve of Spurs, but the most likely outcome is that Rose will stay for at least another year.
