Celtic confirmed their place in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday night with a 1-0 win over Norwegian giants Rosenborg at the Lerkendal Stadium.

James Forrest’s strike midway through the second half saw the Hoops confirm a 1-0 win on aggregate, after Kare Ingebrightsen’s side had frustrated Celtic to a 0-0 draw back in Glasgow.

The 26-year-old took advantage of a loose ball inside the Rosenborg box before drilling home a powerful effort from a tight angle that flew past goalkeeper Andre Hansen at his near post.

Now among Europe’s best 32 teams, Celtic will be hoping to go one better than last season and reach the knockout stages of the competition, or at least qualify for Europa League football after Christmas.

Brendan Rodgers will have plenty to consider ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts at Parkhead, as the former Liverpool manager looks to earn a second successive treble.
