Andy Couzens believes Leeds will only get the best out of new signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga if the striker is managed correctly.

Leeds are yet to confirm the signing of the 25-year-old Hamburg striker, but the Yorkshire Post claim that the Whites have agreed a deal to sign the powerful striker despite his £50,000-a-week wages.

Former Leeds midfielder Couzens claimed on his personal Twitter account that he believes Lasogga “needs to be managed in the right way” but also stated that he could be a “great signing” for the club.

Leeds have been on the lookout for a new striker since the loss of Chris Wood, who joined Premier League side Burnley earlier this summer for a fee believed to be around £15million plus add-ons.

Lasogga managed just two goals for Hamburg last season, with only one of those coming in the Bundesliga during 20 appearances in Germany’s top flight.

However, he is now expected to put pen to paper on a deal with the Whites and rival fellow new signing Jay-Roy Grot as well as Kemar Roofe to start up front as Leeds’ focal point.

OPINION

Leeds needed a proven striker that can find the back of the net and they have found that in Lasogga, despite last season’s form. Making 128 appearances in the Bundesliga, Hamburg’s number 10 has found the back of the net more than once in every four games, with 34 goals to his name for the likes of Hamburg and Hertha Berlin. His physical frame sees him as a like-for-like replacement for Wood, and that should allow him to find the back of the net regularly in the Championship with Leeds creating chances for fun at the minute.
