Huddersfield are weighing up a late-window swoop for Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the Premier League new boys are ready to take advantage of the availability of the 37-year-old, who has lost his starting spot this season after being an ever-present in last season’s Championship.

The Mail report that Huddersfield manager David Wagner “might move” for Green to provide competition for Jonas Lossl, who signed on a season-long loan this summer.

Good move for Leeds?

No, not at all. Green might have lost out to summer signing Felix Wiedwald in the battle for the No1 spot but the Championship season is a long one with many twists and turns, and Leeds need as many proven performers as they can get. Green showed in the final months of last season under ex-manager Garry Monk that he remains a fine and agile keeper with the ability to make important saves. He is also an excellent example to young players with his professionalism and strong mentality. Leeds should hang on to the former England man for as long as they can. They will miss him when he has gone.

Likely to happen?

It depends what assurances, if any, Green has had from new manager Thomas Christiansen. He started the midweek League Cup triumph, which might be regarded as a back-handed compliment given that there were nine changes from the side that beat Sunderland last weekend. But Leeds are certainly vulnerable to losing the veteran keeper, who is out of contract next summer and is unlikely to want to sit on the bench for too long.
