Celtic are in ongoing talks with fellow Premiership club Aberdeen over the transfer of wide forward Gary Mackay-Steven, according to the BBC.

The popular broadcasters have detailed on their sport page that the Dons have made the 26-year-old Scotland international their next transfer target.

However, the two Scottish clubs have so far been unable to agree a fee and a permanent deal is said to be looking unlikely for now.

A loan deal for Mackay-Steven is out of the question too with Premiership rules stating that only one player can be loaned between clubs and of course Hoops youngster Ryan Christie is already part of the Dons squad after being involved in the deal which saw Jonny Hayes move in the opposite direction.

Mackay-Steven cost Celtic just £250,000 in the January 2015 transfer window from Dundee United and he played just 11 times in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers’ treble-winning side in the last campaign.

But, with two years remaining on his contract the Hoops can still demand a fee which they see fitting and that may be viewed as too much for Aberdeen, who have only completed deals for trio Christie, Greg Tansey and Nicky Maynard this summer without spending a penny.
