West Brom are interested in signing Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer this summer after he went public with his desire to find a new club.

The Express and Star claim that Baggies manager Tony Pulis is keeping close tabs on the Austria international, 24, and regards him as a viable alternative to his first choice centre-back target, Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.

It is said that West Brom are ready to rival Southampton for Wimmer but are not willing to meet the £20million asking price set by the north London club.

Wimmer joined Spurs for £4million from Koln in the summer of 2015 and has made just 31 appearances in two seasons, only 10 of which came last season when he struggled to find his way past senior trio Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier.

The centre-back has spoken of his frustration this week at playing second fiddle at a time in his career when he wants to be a nailed-on starter at an English club.

“Twenty-four years is exactly the age at which it is most important to play regularly,” said Wimmer. “Not only have to train week after week and have to sit down on the bench at the game. In the next few days and weeks, the main focus will certainly be placed on what is there for offers, and we will definitely look around.

“It’s time to look for something, where the chances of regular use are again higher.

“For me, it would be the most beautiful if I could stay in the Premier League. The league is very good for me.”

Tottenham are seemingly confident they can secure a massive profit of £16million after tying Wimmer down to a new contract last summer that runs until 2021.
