Celtic would heat up the rivalry for a place between the sticks on Parkhead with the signing of Newcastle stopper Freddie Woodman this summer.

Transfer expert Alan Nixon claimed in his Sun column (Sunday, page 63) that the Toon want to sell the 20-year-old goalkeeper to a Scottish Premiership side ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

It is reported that SPL side Kilmarnock want to sign Woodman, after the Magpies academy graduate spent the second half of last season loan with Lee McCulloch’s side.

Woodman is way down the pecking order at St. James’ Park, behind the likes of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot while Holland international Tim Krul has returned from a loan spell with AZ Alkmaar.

This Is Futbol considers three reasons why Celtic should move for the Toon youngster as Brendan Rodgers looks to bring in the right players to push his side towards the knockout stages of the Champions League.
