The odds have been slashed on Celtic signing Manchester City forward Patrick Roberts this summer.

Sky Bet have installed the Scottish treble winners as evens favourites to land the wide forward before the transfer window shuts on 3 September.

Celtic have pulled clear of English clubs in the Roberts race, with Premier League new boys Huddersfield at 6/1, behind second favourites Girona (3/1), who have just been promoted from the Spanish second tier to La Liga.

The drop in Celtic’s odds comes after they were 2/1 with Bet Victor in the middle of last month to sign Roberts, when they were closely trailed by Huddersfield and third favourites Nice.

Roberts future at City is up in the air even though he is contracted to the club until 2020.

He has spent the last 18 months on loan at Celtic and even played against his parent club in the Champions League group stages last season.

The England Under-20 international ended the 2016-17 in outstanding form, with his haul of 11 goals and 19 assists from 43 league and cup appearances enough to catch the eyes of clubs all around Europe.

But Roberts’ chances of becoming a City regular appear to be slim as the club have already signed attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva from Ligue 1 champions Monaco this summer.

Like Roberts, Silva is a left-footer who prefers to cuts in from the right wing to open up defences.
