Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes that the club should do everything within their power to sign Bournemouth striker Joshua King this summer.

His comments comes after the story in the Telegraph which reported that Spurs are willing to spend big in order to land the 25-year-old in the transfer window.

Sherwood is someone who understands the demands of playing football at White Hart Lane as he made a total of 98 appearances for Spurs.

The former England international also managed the club for a brief period of time during the 2013-14 season where he guided Spurs to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Talking to the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on talkSPORT on Tuesday (2 July at 8am), Sherwood believes that King will be the perfect back-up choice to talisman Harry Kane next season.

“They can’t buy one who expects to be first choice because Harry will obviously be first choice,” he said.

“For me, it would be the one at Bournemouth. I think Josh King has got loads to offer.

“He runs in behind, he holds it up, he is strong, he is still developing and he would be a perfect player for the Tottenham squad.

“And he would get plenty of games – they are in the Champions League this year as well.”

Tottenham supporters should not get their hopes up about the potential signing of King this summer as the Sun recently reported that the Bournemouth man wants to stay at the club next season in order to further develop his game.

King enjoyed his best campaign since joining the Cherries two years as he finished as the club’s leading goalscoring with 16 goals last season.

The striker is someone who needs to be playing on a regular basis to perform consistently and he is unlikely to be given a starting role with Tottenham next season.
