Swansea centre-back Alfie Mawson has told that he is “more than happy” at the Welsh club following reports that Tottenham are eyeing him.

The Telegraph claimed earlier in the month that Spurs were planning to secure a swap deal that would see young star Joshua Onomah join Swansea on loan while Mawson headed in the other direction to north London.

Nothing has since developed with the 23-year-old centre-back featuring in England’s European Under-21 Championship semi-final team this summer.

But, now, as he makes his return to training with Swansea after being given an extended break he has told the BBC that while it is nice to hear his name linked with bigger clubs, he is happy to remain at the Swans.

“I’m very grounded and very level-headed when it comes to that,” told Mawson, as quoted by the BBC Sport website.

“It’s all speculation. It’s nice to hear, but I’m a Swansea player and I’m more than happy here.

“I love it here. I want to kick on and do great things at this club.

“There’s always talk and there’s loads of speculation, but I’m happy to be here under the gaffer.

“So it’s onwards and upwards at this club.”

Mawson made his switch to the Liberty Stadium just last summer in deal worth £5.5million from Championship club Barnsley.

He proved an instant success for Paul Clement’s team, playing 27 matches in all competitions in total and helping them to Premier League survival.

Tottenham, meanwhile have two very capable centre-backs in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, but they could now be looking for a backup replacement for Kevin Wimmer, who is being linked with a move elsewhere.
