Tottenham are lining up a move for Swansea defender Alfie Mawson which would see midfielder Joshua Onomah join the Welsh side on loan, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim on their website that Spurs are hoping that a potential swap deal would help lower Swansea’s £30million asking price for the 23-year-old centre back, who is said to viewed as a potential replacement for Kevin Wimmer.

He impressed for the Swans last season, arriving from Barnsley and thrown straight into the first team to make 27 top flight appearances, scoring four goals.

Mawson also helped the England U21 side reach the semi-final stage of the U21 European Championships, appearing in every minute of every game as the young lions fell to Germany on penalties.

Meanwhile the Sun claim that fellow England U21 international Onomah is at the centre of a three-way battle from Scottish giants Celtic as well as newly promoted Huddersfield and Brighton.

They claim that the trio all want to secure a loan move for the 20-year-old, but it appears Mauricio Pochettino may attempt to use him as a makeweight in the Mawson deal.

The attacking midfielder, who can also play on either flank, got a run out on 12 occasions across all competitions for Spurs last season , including two cameo appearances in the Champions League, while his only goal came in the EFL Cup.
