Brighton have had an £11million bid for Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney reportedly rejected and Newcastle must now steal in to boost their chances of avoiding relegation.

The Sun revealed that Delaney is said to be interested in a move to another of the Championship’s promoted sides in Brighton as he was impressed with the project set up on the south coast.

It is believed that an £11million offer for the 25-year-old has been rejected by the Bundesliga outfit, who are holding out for more money if they are to part company with their midfield star.

Rafa Benitez is likely to be busy in the upcoming summer transfer window following the Toon’s promotion from England’s second tier, and has already completed the signing of Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on a permanent basis.

This Is Futbol analyses three reasons why Newcastle must rival Brighton for the 16-time Denmark international, who proved to be Bremen’s star player last season in a side that finished eighth in the Bundesliga.
