Newcastle have been installed joint favourites with Leeds and Wolves after having their odds slashed on signing Celtic goal machine Leigh Griffiths this summer, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.
In May Bet Victor had priced the Magpies at 14/1 with both Leeds and Wolves sitting some way ahead at 6/1.
However, now, on July 9 Newcastle sit as joint favourites at 6/1 with the two Championship clubs remaining at the same price.
Scottish Premiership side Hibernian sit the closest to the English trio in the betting odds, but they are still someway behind at 12/1.
Newcastle’s odds drop follows a difficult summer for the north east club in the transfer market so far and Rafa Benitez is reportedly growing frustrated after missing out on a number of targets, including young forward Tammy Abraham.
Meanwhile, Leeds have already added four players to their side this summer, but they may still be keen to add some more firepower to backup star Chris Wood.
Griffiths, 26, would certainly bring that given he has a stunning record of 94 goals in 161 Premiership matches during his career which has seen him play for Celtic, Hibernian and Dundee in Scotland.
However, if he was to leave Brendan Rodgers’ team and Champions League football behind it is likely he will hold out for a move to the Premier League with four years still remaining on his contract.
