Leeds fans react to Ekuban speculation

|

Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of signing of Chievo striker Caleb Ekuban – and supporters are uncertain he is of the calibre needed.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, who works as a correspondent for Sport Italia and Tutto Mercato Web, reported on his personal Twitter account on Saturday night that the Italian born Ghanaian centre-forward is heading to Elland Road.

His message on the social media site translates as, ‘Chievo striker Ekuban is about to sign with Leeds United’.

Leeds are in the market for a striker who can provide cover for main man Chris Wood, who topped the Championship goal charts with 27 strikes last season.

But supporters of the Championship club are not convinced that Ekuban is the answer to their forward problem despite his excellent loan spell in 2016-17.

This Is Futbol has rounded up some of the best tweets:

Ekuban has spent the last seven years on the books of Serie A outfit Chievo after joining them in his early teens but he has not played for their senior team and has spent most of that period out on loan, including at minnows Sudtirol, Lumezzane and Renate.

The forward, who plays predominantly as a central striker, but can also play on both flanks and in a playmaker role, is in the form of his life following an outstanding campaign on loan at Albanian top flight side Partizani Tirana.

Ekuban scored 18 goals and supplied five assists in 42 matches in all competitions last season, with 17 of his strikes coming from 34 league fixtures.

Leeds’ current senior strikers are Wood, Marcus Antonsson and Souleymane Doukara, while youngster Lee Erwin has made the most of his pre-season opportunities with three goals in two matches.
