Charlie Taylor has completed a Burnley medical and is set to transfer to the Premier League club from Leeds United this week, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim on their website that the left-back, 23, is on the verge of completing a move that separate reports claim, including by the Yorkshire Evening Post, will be worth over £5million.

Sean Dyche’s side have swooped for Taylor after his contract expired last weekend, although he remains on Leeds’ payroll and they retain his registration.

A fee has not yet been agreed between the two clubs but Leeds are said to be confident of securing a multi-million pound sum because they are owed compensation for his development costs.

Taylor joined the Leeds academy at the age of nine and progressed through the ranks to become an established first-team player who won the club’s 2015-16 player of the year award.

United are due compensation for Taylor under FA rules because he is under the age of 24 and they have developed him over the last 14 years.

The defender submitted a transfer request at the start of the season but it was rejected by Leeds and they once again snubbed interest in him during the January transfer window.

He is set to quit his boyhood club on a sour note after refusing to play in United’s final match of last season, apparently to avoid injury ahead of a summer transfer.

Leeds’ remaining senior left-back is Gaetano Berardi although a new signing for the position is likely, with Ard van Peppen from Dutch Eredivisie side Roda among those linked.
