Leeds United are still waiting to learn if they can push through the signing of Samuel Saiz, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay delivered the latest update on United’s pursuit of the Spanish attacking midfielder on Twitter on Tuesday.

Hay explained on his personal account on the social media site that it is developing in to a “bit of a saga” for Leeds due to complications in finalising the terms of the transfer with Saiz’s club Huesca.

The player has jetted off to Miami on holiday and is not back until Sunday, which has left Leeds in limbo as they wait for the green light to complete the signing of one of their principal targets.

The Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that Spanish second tier outfit Huesca want £3million for one of the players widely regarded as the finest in the division.

But negotiations have stalled as Saiz’s former club Atletico retain his economic rights to and negotiated a clause entitling them to half of any fee paid for him provided his valuation rises above a certain level.

Hay suggests Leeds’ bid to sign the versatile attacker is now in doubt although there is still nearly two months left in the transfer window.

New manager Thomas Christiansen will want as many new signings in place as possible before the Championship campaign gets underway on 6 August.

Leeds have already made four signings this summer in midfield duo Mateusz Klich and Madger Gomes, goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald and right-winger Hadi Sacko, who converted his loan of last season into a permanent transfer.
