Leeds United have been installed the second favourites to sign Norwich central midfielder Jonny Howson.

Bet Victor priced the Yorkshire giants at 3/1 to re-sign the Elland Road academy product before the transfer window shuts this summer.

But Leeds lag behind Middlesbrough, managed by ex-United boss Garry Monk, in the betting as the recently relegated Championship big hitters are evens to land Howson.

This comes after a report in the Mail that Boro have lodged a “strong” offer  Howson but have still not yet met Norwich’s £6million valuation of the 29-year-old.

It is said that Leeds are also firmly in the race to re-sign a player who spent six years in their senior ranks before quitting for Norwich in 2012, while Premier League club Burnley are also pushing to land him ahead of the second-tier duo.

The arrival of Howson at Elland Road after a five-year gap would send supporters into a tailspin given his background, pedigree and strong links to the club.

Morley-reared Howson is a huge favourite among Leeds fans after emerging from the club’s ranks to start his professional career there and going on to make 219 appearances as well as captain the side.

He quit for Norwich in 2012 and has also been an influential player at the Championship club, scoring 23 goals from midfield in 188 games.

His 2016-17 statistics at Carrow Road are also impressive, with 38 league matches yielding six goals and providing eight assists.
