Newcastle have turned their attentions to Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart with an enquiry lodged for the experienced shot-stopper, according to the Daily Mail.

The news outlet have detailed on their website that the Magpies are looking to increase the competition for current goalkeeper duo Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot ahead of their Premier League campaign.

They have already considered Napoli’s goalkeeper Pepe Reina given his history with manager Rafa Benitez alongside ex-City stopper Willy Caballero, who was confirmed to have made the move to Chelsea on Saturday.

Now, they are stepping forward for England’s number one Hart, who is unwanted at the cash-rich Manchester club under Pep Guardiola.

Last season the 30-year-old spent the campaign on loan at Italian Serie A side Torino, where he played 38 times in all competitions, keeping just six clean sheets while conceding on 64 occasions.

But, his career has been much more successful in the past and he has previously been key to helping Manchester City win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups during his 11 years at the club.

Hart has also won the Premier League Golden Glove award on four separate occasions and he certainly boasts a lot of experience.

But, with that comes huge wage demands and the Mail report details that West Ham, who are also keen on signing the goalkeeper will struggle to match his wages.

Budget constraints have been a big issue for Newcastle this summer as they have reportedly missed out on a number of targets, but they will also be keen to sure they don’t start the Premier League campaign without strengthening their Championship title winning side vastly.
