Premier League rivals Leicester have launched a six-figure bid for Newcastle target and Coventry striker George Thomas, according to the Daily Mail.

The news outlet have detailed on their transfer blog (Saturday, 04.11pm) that the Foxes have made a bid worth £450,000 for the 20-year-old forward.

The report details that the youngster is out of contract at the recently relegated League Two club and this has seen him attract interest from the Magpies, Swansea and Burnley.

But, it is Leicester who have pushed forward in their pursuit and they have approached Coventry in an attempt to reach an agreement instead of taking the deal to a tribunal.

Thomas is highly thought of at the Midlands club and he made his professional debut back in January 2014 aged just 16.

He has since gone on to play 53 times in total for Coventry returning nine goals with the club using his versatility to allow him to play on the right, left and in the centre of the attack.

Thomas is however born in Leicester and this could give the Foxes a big boost in securing the signing of the six-time capped Wales Under-17 international this summer.

Newcastle, meanwhile are thought to be looking to strengthen their club this summer on their return to the Premier League while also looking to the future with players such as Thomas.
