Giuseppe Bellusci is on the verge of quitting Leeds United to join Greek club PAOK, according to a reliable journalist.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his personal website that an announcement is imminent that Bellusci has agreed to terminate his Leeds contract, which runs until the end of the season.

Di Marzio reports that Bellusci is being pursued by Serie B clubs Cremonese and Novara but his most likely destination is Greek big hitters PAOK.

The centre-back will become a free agent if he severs his ties with Leeds, which means a buying club will not have to pay a transfer fee to take on his registration.

Bellusci, 27, has been strongly linked with a permanent exit from Leeds after spending last season on loan at Empoli but their relegation from Serie A put paid to his hopes of a permanent transfer.

That now appears to be close, although paperwork such as his registration will still have to be transferred from Leeds to his new employers.

Bellusci briefly returned to Leeds after being granted an extended summer break to find a new club but was jeered by supporters during a pre-season friendly nine days ago.

His miserable spell at Elland Road is now reportedly to end three years after he joined in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £1.6million.

But Bellusci did not come close to living up to a reputation that had once earned him four Italy Under-21 caps as controversy, ill discipline and mediocre performances marked his two seasons in the first team.
