Vurnon Anita trained separately from the Leeds United squad ahead of their first pre-season clash against Guiseley on Saturday.

The Championship club’s headline summer signing to date arrived on a free transfer on Thursday just days after quitting Newcastle United.

But he is not yet deemed by Thomas Christiansen and his staff to be sufficiently up to speed to be selected for Saturday’s friendly encounter at the home of non-league Guiseley.

The new manager named a completely different XI for both the first and second halves of the match as 22 players were given a chance to impress four weeks ahead of the first Championship fixture.

But Holland international Anita was not among them after Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent Phil Hay uploaded an image that showed the player having his own training session separate from the other players.

Hay reported in a follow-up message on his personal Twitter account that Anita, 28, would have no involvement in the match.

The versatile performer, who can play at right-back or in central midfield, surprisingly became Leeds’ sixth summer signing after swapping the Premier League for the Championship.

His contract expired at Newcastle at the end of last month and he has signed a three-year contract that runs until 2020.
