Huddersfield have turned their attention to West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher after being priced out of a move for Leeds United star Chris Wood, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper’s transfer blog on Saturday (10.43pm) claimed that the Premier League new boys had initially set their sights on Leeds spearhead Wood, who was the Championship top scorer last season with 27 goals.

The Mirror report that the cost of prising Wood from Elland Road is £15million, a price that Huddersfield are unable to meet even though they will benefit from the lucrative Premier League broadcasting deal next season.

It is said that the Terriers manager David Wagner is now ready to table a £5million bid for Fletcher as he aims to secure a new striker following the team’s promotion.

Ex-Manchester United trainee Fletcher, 21, joined West Ham last summer and made 20 first-team appearances.

But the majority of those games came as a late substitute as the forward was handed just two league starts by manager Slaven Bilic despite the team’s troubles in front of goal.

Wood has been the reported subject of widespread interest from Premier League clubs but threw his public support behind new Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen this week.
