Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie has completed a move to Scottish minnows Berwick Rangers, it has been confirmed.

The Scottish League Two side announced on their official club website and Twitter account on Saturday morning that the young stopper had completed a season-long loan move to the club.

McCrorie, 19, has been a regular performer in Rangers’ Under-20 side of late, but has been permitted to join Berwick in a bid to further his development in a senior first-team environment.

The young Scot has appeared on the bench, but has yet to fully break into the first-team setup at Ibrox, with Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick the two senior options currently at manager Pedro Caixinha’s disposal.

But the move to Berwick represents a fine opportunity for McCrorie to showcase his talents to both Caixinha and Under-2o manager Graeme Murty, with the inevitable decision to come over his future worth to the side.

He is under contract at Rangers until the end of the 2019 season, and should he have stillĀ failed to make a breakthrough in two years’ time, a decision could then be made to avoid extending his contract.

However, Rangers’ Head of Academy Craig Mullholland spoke of his delight at McCrorie’s recent progress following the loanĀ move, insisting that the upcoming spell will aid his transition into the first-team.

Berwick, meanwhile, have branded the signing of the Scotland Under 19 international as a “coup” for the club on their website.
