Aston Villa have tabled an offer to sign out-of-contract defender John Terry this summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Championship club are prepared to offer him a lucrative deal worth £3million per year, but the deal could rise to £5million if Aston Villa seal promotion to the Premier League.

There will also be extra financial incentives depending on the number of appearances Terry makes, with manager Steve Bruce flexing Villa’s financial muscle in an attempt to beat the competition.

A host of clubs have been keen to snap up the experienced former England international this summer, and he has opportunities to remain in the top flight with Swansea, Bournemouth and West Brom.

Terry has already held talks with the Premier League trio over a move, but it is understood that Villa’s upcoming promotion challenge is an attractive prospect for the 36-year-old.

He has also been offered a lucrative deal worth £10million-per-year to finish his career in the Chinese Super League, but Terry appears is set on a move to Villa Park after positive talks.

An earlier report from the Sun claimed that Bruce had moved to convince Terry over a move to the Midlands outfit over a round of golf at the Quinta do Lago resort in Portugal.

But Bruce’s efforts to sell a move to Terry could well be rewarded in the coming weeks, with the Chelsea star set to end 19-year association with the Blues when his contract expires next week.

The Telegraph, meanwhile, report that Terry will make a decision on his future in the next two weeks, with no fewer than 10 realistic offers on the table.
