Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has dropped a major hint on social media that he is set to announce a major deal.

The Elland Road number two has been linked with a summer transfer after losing his starting spot last season to former England international Rob Green.

The Italian goalkeeper was the undisputed No1 for two seasons but was forced to settle for a fringe role in his third campaign at the club, in which all his six appearances have come in cup competitions.

Silvestri posted a teasing message on his personal Twitter account in the early hours of Thursday that read ‘Soon’ in block letters, accompanied by an image of him in action in goal.

This strongly suggests that the 26-year-old has agreed a transfer from Leeds that will imminently be announced, or he secured a new contract with the club he joined in 2014.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio, who is renowned as a transfer expert, claimed on his personal website earlier this month that newly promoted Serie A club SPAL are in talks with Leeds about signing Silvestri.

Ex-England international Green played the entirety of Leeds’ 46-match Championship campaign in 2016-17 and was arguably the team’s outstanding player in the final months of the campaign.

The veteran, 38, was also recently rewarded with a new contract that will keep him at Elland Road until the end of next season.

It remains to be seen whether Silvestri, who joined Leeds from Chievo in the summer of 2014 on a four-year contract, is willing to play second fiddle again next season.
