Leeds United striker Chris Wood sent the club’s fans wild on social media after scoring for the New Zealand national team in Wednesday night’s Confederations Cup group match against Mexico.

The 25-year-old scored the opening goal of the game early in the second-half but New Zealand went away disappointed as Mexico produced a great comeback to win 2-1.

The game was marred by a mass brawl between the two sides in the final moments of the match.

The striker has now scored 20 goals in 51 appearances for his country since making his debut seven years ago.

Wood was arguably the best player for Leeds last season and the Elland Road faithful were quick to express their delight at watching him deliver the goods for his national side.

Wood was absolutely sensational for the Yorkshire club last season, finishing as their top goalscorer with 30 goals in all competitions.

The defeat means that New Zealand have been eliminated from the tournament as they also lost their opening match to hosts Russia.

The striker is set to feature in the final match of the group as New Zealand face European champions Portugal on the weekend.
