Marco Silvestri’s days at Leeds United are numbered as the club prepare to unveil their latest new signing in goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim that Wiedwald is set to undergo a medical at Elland Road after agreeing to move from Werder Bremen for a fee of around £500,000.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that the 27-year-old’s arrival from the team that finished eighth in last season’s Bundesliga could lead to the departure of Italian keeper Silvestri, 26.

The United number two has been linked with a summer transfer after losing out to England international Rob Green in the first for the regular keeping spot last season.

Former Italy Under-21 international Silvestri had been the undisputed No1 for the two seasons before Green’s arrival but he was forced to play second fiddle to the veteran in his third campaign at the club.

Silvestri posted a teasing message on his personal Twitter account last week that read ‘Soon’ in block letters, accompanied by an image of him in action in goal.

The Leeds faithful interpreted it as a message from Silvestri that he had either secured a new contract with the club, or agreed a transfer from Elland Road that will imminently be announced.

In addition to Green and Silvestri, Leeds also have youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell on their books, although all three are on contracts that expire in 12 months, which leaves their keeper ranks vulnerable.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Wiedwald, who has been at Bremen for the last two years and has been a regular in the team, has agreed the terms of a three-year deal.

He is set to become Leeds’ second new senior recruit following the signing of midfielder Mateusz Klich from FC Twente for a fee of around £1.5million last week, although the club have also converted the loans of Hadi Sacko and Pontus Jansson into permanent transfers and snapped up 20-year-old midfielder Madger Gomes from the Liverpool academy on Tuesday.

Leeds are also reportedly in advanced talks to sign Lugano right-winger Ezygan Alioski and Huesca playmaker Samuel Saiz.
