Celtic have agreed a deal with Ipswich midfielder Kundai Benyu after he underwent a medical in Glasgow on Wednesday, according to HITC Sport.

The 19-year-old’s contract at the English Championship club is currently set to end on Friday and it is believed that the Hoops have now moved quickly with Brendan Rodgers viewing him as a potential star.

It is also detailed that several Premier League sides were chasing the teenager and on Wednesday the Scottish Sun named each of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa as to holding an interest in him.

However, Celtic could soon be about to announce their second signing of the summer window with the HITC report stating that Benyu is set to put pen-to-paper on Thursday.

The Glasgow giants have already brought in attacker Jonny Hayes from last season’s Premiership runners-up Aberdeen and Rodgers is now looking to strengthen his team further as he looks to match the success of the last campaign.

It is likely that Benyu is being brought in with the long-term future in mind given that his only senior football to date has came in the English non-leagues with Aldershot, where he played 23 times scoring five goals and providing three

Celtic will also have to pay a compensation fee for Benyu, as they did with current star Moussa Dembele last summer and it is believed that the cost will be “minimal” due to his decision to move north of the border.
