Carlos Pena’s agent Salvador Necochea has revealed his client’s work permit is expected to be completed by next Monday to enable him to finalise a move to Rangers.

The Daily Record has reported the Gers have submitted an approach to the Department of Employment for a work permit for Pena, 27, and their efforts have been boosted by a letter from Chivas manager Matias Almeyda.

Necochea is confident the Mexican attacking midfielder will receive a permit as a result of Chivas and Rangers’ efforts, and he expects him to link up with the Glasgow giants some time next week.

Speaking to the Daily Record, the agent said: “Rangers have told us everything is likely to go through. We are not thinking about it being rejected.

“There is no Plan B – if he didn’t get it he would head back to Chivas, but we are sure that won’t be the case.

“The process is being led directly by Rangers’ law firm. It’s already under way and we are hoping we could have the permit by Monday next week.

“Carlos does not have to be there for it, he would collect it at the UK Embassy in Mexico City. He will return to Scotland as soon as he has permission to sign.”

This comes after a previous Daily Record report claimed Pena was set to undergo a medical at Rangers, after an agreement over a transfer fee had been made between Chivas and the Glasgow giants.

Pena is known in Mexico as ‘Gullit’ because of his resemblance to Dutch legend Ruud Gullit.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of the 2016/17 season on loan at Leon, where he played eight games.

He made 15 appearances in all competitions for his parent side, Chivas, in the first half of the campaign.

Pena has been capped by Mexico 19 times, and he featured in one game of their 2014 World Cup campaign.
