Celtic striker Nadir Ciftci has been informed that he is surplus to requirements at the club ahead of the new season, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that manager Brendan Rodgers has told the 25-year-old forward that he can leave Celtic Park this summer as he is not part of his plans.

The report claims that the Turkish striker did not travel with the rest of the squad to Austria yesterday for pre-season training ahead of the upcoming Europa League qualifiers.

It is understood that Ciftci will remain at Celtic’s training centre until he has found reached an agreement with another club.

The Sun reports that fellow SPL sides St Johnstone, Dundee United and Motherwell could all be keen in securing the striker’s signature this summer as they have previously shown interest.

Ciftci signed for Celtic from Dundee United at the start of the 2015-16 season for a fee around £1.5m but he failed to become a regular starter at the club.

The Turkish forward only featured in 11 league matches during his debut campaign but he still managed to contribute with four goals and one assist.

It was an even tougher season second for the striker as he only made four appearances for the Hoops before being loaned to top tier Polish side Lotto Ekstraklasa in February where he failed to score a single goal.

Ciftci’s current contract at Celtic Park runs out in 2019.
