Leeds United have reportedly agreed to sign Werder Bremen goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald – and fans of the English club have taken to Twitter to hail the potential signing.
German outlet Kicker reported on Tuesday afternoon that Wiedwald is heading to Elland Road after reaching an agreement to quit Bremen and sign for Leeds.
Follow-up reports in England stated that United are keen to sign the 27-year-old and have lodged a firm enquiry but have insisted that the deal is not yet done.
Nevertheless, Leeds fans are getting excited about the possibility of Wiedwald moving from the side that finished eighth in last season’s Bundesliga to one who were seventh in the Championship.

Anyway, personally think #Wiedwald would be a decent signing for #lufc. Better than Green, better than Silvestri and only €500k? No brainer.

I’m sure Felix Wiedwald is a very capable goalkeeper but has he ever gone to a music festival dressed as Danger Mouse? #lufc

Wiedwald is a highly competent goalkeeper who was all too often undone by a porous Bremen rearguard. A shrewd purchase. #lufc

Wiedwald’s made 50-odd league appearances in the Bundesliga in last 2yrs.I’d be concerned if I was Green. Doesn’t look like a number 2 #lufc

I guess this is the end for silvestri? BPF to go out on loan and between wiedwald and green for no1 spot #lufc

The strong Wiedwald link comes on the day that Leeds announced the signing of 20-year-old central midfielder Madger Gomes from Liverpool, and follows the arrival of Mateusz Klich for £1.5million from FC Twente last week.
United are seemingly set for a spate of other new arrivals with playmaker Samu Saiz and right-winger Esgjan Alioski among the reported targets.
Nevertheless, Leeds’ bid to sign Wiedwald might be regarded as something of a surprise given that they already have two senior goalkeepers in No1 Rob Green and his deputy Marco Silvestri.
However, Green is 37 and out of contract next summer, while former Italy Under-21 international Silvestri also has 12 months left on his deal.
Wiedwald joined Bremen from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2015 and has been a regular for the Bundesliga club in the past two years.
He has made 65 appearances in all competitions, with 26 of those coming last season as the club finished eighth in the German top flight.
