United table £35million for Rodriguez – double deal causes issue

|

Manchester United have tabled a bid of £35million (€40million) for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez but face a fight in convincing the Spanish giants to sell, according to Don Balon.

The Spanish magazine claim on their website that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is looking for a fee closer to £53million (€60million) for the 55-time-capped Columbian playmaker, although he is said to have doubts even if this fee is met by the English club.

This is said to be because he does not want to sell both Rodriguez and Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to United this summer.

Don Balon report that the Reds are on the verge of securing the signature of the 24-year-old forward for a fee of £62million, with club President Perez said to be keen to get the money to fund a move for Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe.

Meanwhile Diario Gol claim that Rodriguez has already agreed personal terms with Jose Mourinho’s side, the newspaper stating that the 25-year-old has gone behind Perez’s back to discuss a contract with the Premier League club.

Perez is said to be willing to accept an offer of his own valuation from another club, although it is claimed by a number of outlets that Rodriguez could well refuse a transfer if it is not a move to Old Trafford.

Utilised as a squad player by manager Zinedine Zidane last season, the Columbian managed to score 11 goals and pick up 13 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.
