Celtic youth coach Miodrag Krivokapic believes reported summer transfer target Srdjan Plavsic has what it takes to succeed at the club.

The Daily Mail claimed on Wednesday that the Scottish treble winners had deployed scouts to watch the 21-year-old winger in action on multiple occasions, ahead of a potential summer move.

Hoops recruitment chief Lee Congerton is set to assess the talents of the Serbia Under-21 international once more against Spain at the European Championships on Friday.

Plavsic contributed eight goals and five assists from 39 appearances in all competitions for Red Star Belgrade last season, but it is understood that the youngster expects to leave this summer.

Celtic could face stiff competition from European rivals Basel and Sparta Prague for his signature as he could be available for a paltry £1.5million, and Krivokapic believes he could be a valuable investment.

He told the Evening Times: “He’s a good player, and players from that part of the world tend to be technically good players.

“People back home have told me that he is a good player, but I haven’t spoken to them in any great detail about him really.

“What I can say though is that Red Star are a massive club, so a move to Celtic shouldn’t faze him if that happens. They might not be at the level they were at maybe 20 years ago, but they are still a big club.”

Krivokapic has been a member of the Celtic backroom team since June 2008, marking his return to Scotland for the first time since his short stint with Hamilton at the end of his playing career in 1999.

A versatile winger, Plavsic can be deployed on either flank, where he utilises his express pace to take on defenders and create chances for his team-mates.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is currently the hunt of attacking reinforcements in the wider areas, having reluctantly seen on loan winger Patrick Roberts return to Manchester City.

Roberts was a key player for the Scottish club during his 18-month loan spell, but Celtic are seeking alternative options with no agreement having been reached over a deal to extend his stay.
