Celtic have sent head of recruitment Lee Congerton to the U21 European Championships in Poland in order to run the rule over Serbian starlet Srdjan Plavsic, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims on their website that the Hoops are interested in securing a £1.5million deal for the versatile 21-year-old winger, and that Congerton will be watching on when he lines up for Serbia to take on Spain on Friday.

At just 5′ 5″, Plavsic is nicknamed the ‘Atomic Ant’ due to his explosive pace down the flanks, with an ability to play on either side of the pitch for both current club Red Star Belgrade and his country, for who he has two senior caps.

The Daily Mail reports that the winger is expecting to move from Belgrade this summer, and Celtic seem keen on swooping for the youngster just days after signing fellow winger Jonny Hayes from Scottish rivals Aberdeen.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to face competition from across Europe for his signature, with Swiss side FC Basel and Czech Republic club Sparta Prague both named as potential suitors by the Daily Mail.

Celtic are set for a busy season which will see them competing on four fronts, both in Scotland and across Europe.

They will be looking to replicate their domestic success which saw them collect a a treble of silverware, while their European campaign will kick off in early July with either a trip to Northern Irish side Linfield FC or San Marino’s SP La Fiorita.
