Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has said that seeing his son sign for the Reds would be ‘a dream’.

The Sun linked Jose Mourinho’s side with a move for the 30-year-old Leicester goalkeeper, with the 24-time-capped Danish international lined up as a potential replacement for current number one David De Gea, who could make a move to Real Madrid this summer.

They could face competition from United’s fierce rivals Liverpool, with manager Jurgen Klopp unconvinced by current options Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

However, Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare has stuck a £50million price tag on the former Leeds stopper’s head, who still has four years left on his £100,000-a-week contract after signing an extension in August 2016.

However, despite insisting that his son is happy with the Foxes, his father Peter says that he would love to see his son move to his former side, where Schmeichel senior established himself as an icon.

Peter told talkSPORT: “It would be a dream. If an opportunity like that [moving to United] came around, that would be fantastic.”

The Premier League legend, who made 292 appearances for the Old Trafford side during his career, believes that his son has proven himself on both the domestic and European stage, and that he is good enough to be playing for the top sides in the world.

Having won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2016, Kasper made his Champions League debut last season, helping the Foxes reach the quarter final stage as he saved a penalty in both legs of their Round of 16 clash with Spanish side Sevilla.

“I think he has done well enough to convince everybody that he can play at the highest level,” his father told talkSPORT.

“If clubs need a really good goalkeeper, well he is somebody who can be trusted to do that.”

During his Leicester career, Kasper has made 230 appearances for the Foxes, and was named as both Leicester’s player of the season and their player’s player of the season for the 2016/17 campaign.
