Aberdeen have told Celtic to increase their offer if they want to sign Jonny Hayes this summer, according to a Press and Journal report.

The newspaper claims Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to sign Hayes, 29, and has made a player-plus-cash offer, which would see Ryan Christie return to the Dons on a season-long loan next term.

However, it is said that Cardiff City’s £1.2million bid for the right-winger is currently better than Celtic’s proposal.

The report also states Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City are set to table offers for the in-demand 29-year-old.

Forest manager Mark Warburton is reported to be keen on Hayes, while Blues manager Harry Redknapp was impressed with his performance in the Scottish Cup final.

This comes after widespread reports, including one in the Daily Record, that Celtic had themselves a £1.2million move for the Irishman.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports Scotland reported last Sunday that Cardiff had offered £1.2million for Hayes, who enjoyed a fine 2016/17 for the Dons.

The right-sided midfielder was one of the club’s top performers, providing an incredible 24 assists in 44 league and cup games, as well as bagging 11 goals.

Hayes signed for Aberdeen in the summer of 2012 from Inverness and he has since made 207 appearances in all competitions, which have yielded 30 goals and 71 assists.
