Hearts manager Ian Cathro has told fellow SPL side Rangers that they must pay £1million in order to land winger Jamie Walker in the summer transfer window.

This comes after the report in the Edinburgh Evening News which claimed that Hearts dismissed an £500,000 offer from Rangers for the 23-year-old.

Rangers are looking to bolster their squad in order to mount a serious title challenge next season and they have already signed five new players this summer.

The Glaswegian side are currently searching for an attacker as Joe Garner edges closer to a summer move away from Ibrox.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Cathro revealed that the club will allow Walker to leave this summer but only for the right offer.

“I don’t think you can bring Jamie to your club for anything less than £1m,” he said.

“You see players, maybe because they are at different clubs, going for more like £3m. The market can be a funny thing at times.

“Jamie is one of the most talented players in the country. Depending on how hard he works, he can go on to play at a very, very high level.

“Naturally we want him in our team so if there are going to be circumstances which take him away they have to reflect the level of quality and potential.”

Walker was one of the stand-out performers for Hearts last season as he made a total of 43 appearances and scored 15 goals and provided seven assists in all competitions.

The Scottish forward scored 12 league goals last season – more than any other Rangers player.

Pedro Caixinha’s side are fully aware of what Walker can produce on the football pitch as he scored a brace in Hearts’ 4-1 league victory over Rangers at the start of February at the Tynecastle Stadium.

Walker’s contract at Hearts expires at the end of next season.
