Halliday insists his time at Rangers is not over

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has insisted that he will fight for his future at the club despite being exiled by boss Pedro Caixinha.

The 25-year-old was reportedly told by the Portuguese manager that he was surplus to requirements at Ibrox and is set to secure a loan move to FC Gabala in Azerbaijan.

However, despite his temporary departure from the club, defensive midfielder Halliday asserts that he will do all he can to force his way back into his manager’s plans and continue his career at Ibrox.

He told the Scottish Sun: “I believe I can force my way back into the manager’s plans.

“I worked very hard to get to Rangers so I certainly won’t be giving up on my place easily.

“Hopefully if I do well over in Azerbaijan it will impress the manager enough to play my way into his plans for next year.”

Halliday, who is contracted at Rangers until 2020, has been at Ibrox for the past two years since signing from English side Bradford and had established himself as a first team star prior to Caixinha’s arrival in April.

He was key in getting the club promoted to the Scottish Premiership in his debut season, scoring five goals and picking up six assists in 35 league appearances.

He made 42 appearances across all competitions for the Gers last season, but found himself limited to mostly substitute appearances following Mark Warburton’s departure.
